According to recent reports in the media, there is a large percentage of children who are going to school without breakfast and adequate nutrition.  This has been highlighted as a major issue in the Bendigo region particularly, where struggling families are having to contend with the rising costs of living.

The McKern Foundation, in partnership with JL King & Co., Porter Davis, Adroit, Orrcon, Bendigo Weekly, has developed the Fresh Fruit Friday initiative.  Our vision is to see every primary school in Bendigo equipped with a selection of fresh fruit on a weekly basis.

To date, we have 31 schools on-board, and the feedback received has been incredibly pleasing.

“What has been particularly pleasing to see is the enjoyment amongst our older children in grade 5 and 6 who were in disbelief that they were receiving free fruit each Friday morning”. –Primary School 1

“It is terrific to see children who may not get the opportunity to eat fresh fruit be able to do so”. – Primary School 2

“The fresh fruit has been fantastic, we are now able to give all of our students at least one piece of fruit each Friday”. – Primary School 3

Together with our special group of partners, we are contributing to the health and wellbeing of our children and the wider Community.
