About Mckern Steel

McKern Building Products traces its origins back to 1969, when Gordon & Anita McKern established McKern Manufacturing Company Pty Ltd in Melbourne to make steel building products for the nation's housing industry.

The McKerns relocated their growing business to the current purpose-built and family owned factory in Victoria Street, Eaglehawk in 1976.

Since then the McKern name has become an industry standard for its quality range of steel lintels and structural steel – with many of these products protected by exclusive design registrations.

In 2005 McKern Building Products acquired Melton Steel and then changed its trading name for both entities to McKern Steel.

McKern Steel also provides steel building products for many major frame & truss companies in NSW such as Hudson, Campbelltown and Bay Timber. In turn, they supply reputable home builders including Simonds, Jennings, Clarendon, Long and Pioneer.

The daily operations of McKern Steel are now capably managed by Gordon & Anita’s oldest son Michael. As Managing Director, Michael works with Gordon and their staff of 40 to satisfy the varied needs of an established national client base. We are now proud to be associated with a number of local organizations in the area with a variety of sponsorships.

Certainly the McKern name is firmly embedded and respected in the Eaglehawk and Bendigo communities, with McKern Steel holding an unchallenged reputation as a highly successful local manufacturer of quality steel building products.
